Meet The Executives

4th Year, Political Science Specialist and African Studies Minor. As the President of the BSA, it is my primary duty to lead the direction of the club towards a safe, strong and supportive environment for Black Students. This entails supporting and providing guidance for the executive members in their respective roles for the overall success of the club, partaking in important administrative meetings with both faculty/staff and other club leaders and overall being the first-hand chief of command of the matters pertaining to the BSA. It is truly a dynamic position. I was previously the Political Director of the BSA during my third year. This role allowed me to understand how BSA, by virtue of representing among the most marginalized student bodies on campus, is inherently a political organization in itself. I loved bing the political director as I was able to fully understand the absolute magnitude BSA holds at UofT for both the student body, and the greater Black community as a whole.  I love digital designing- especially digital portraits of black people as they are often underrepresented in graphic designing. Close to this, I enjoy web designing- the idea of designing a website that is pleasing to the eye is in a way very relaxing to me. Lastly, I love Netflix, and more specifically, real estate shows.

Why I joined BSA?

I joined the BSA because when joining UofT, I was rather shocked at how low the black student body population was. I was always drawn to UofT because of Toronto’s reputation for multiculturalism. But if anything, I found there to be an enormous underrepresentation of Black people on campus, which felt more isolating in classrooms and in residential spaces on campus. However, after attending events at BSA for the first time during my second year, I instantly found a home. I found a home that was fully accepting of me in every way and where I could see more than just myself as a black student on-campus, and it was since my wish to create the same feeling for others through joining the BSA.

4th year majoring in Cognitive Science with a double minor in Linguistics and History. My role in the BSA is to act as the connecting bridge between students on campus and the community, providing any information and opportunities that help to bridge any gaps between these groups together from volunteering to partnerships. I’ve served on the BSA as an executive 2 year in a row prior, first as the Secretary in 2018 (now known as VP Internal), then last year as the Public Relations Officer. I enjoy running and other physical activities, love love LOVE sneakers!, a good Netflix binge and fun crafts on my free time.

Why I joined BSA?

I joined BSA because I’ve always desired to serve and represent my community in as many ways possible. Whether it be on an academic, cultural or recreational platform, I’ve always deemed groups like ours essential. BSA has historically created many opportunities for our students and community as well as a safe space for students to gather, organize and be themselves. Most importantly, BSA has allowed myself to grow in understanding my own identity and has harvested an inclusive space for me and many other students. I’m very excited to have the privilege of serving my community for a third year in a row, demonstrating the strength and excellence of our student body.

5th year student majoring in Diaspora and Transnational Studies with a double minor in History and Philosophy. As Vice-President Internal, I focus on all of the administrative matters of the association that pertains to meetings, emails, documents, etc. I also deal with managing matters of my co-councils and any related committees. Prior to being one of the VP’s, I held the executive position of Secretary during my 2019-2020 academic year. In my leisure time I enjoy writing poetry, sketching and creating content.

Why I joined BSA?

I joined the BSA because being Black plays a huge part in my identity and I wanted to find a way to positively contribute to my community throughout my academic journey. The BSA has given me an outlet to contribute in providing a home and a safe space for UofT’s Black community.

4th year double majoring in Immunology and Health and Disease. As one of the political directors of BSA, my role is to bring awareness and attention to political events relating to BSA. Apart from his passion to help other students, Jermaine enjoys playing basketball and watching TV.

Why I joined BSA?

I joined BSA because for my first three years at U of T, I really enjoyed the activities put forth by the BSA as well as the environment at their events, so I would like to give back to this organization that improved my experience at U of T.

4th year double major in Political Science and African Studies. My partner and I help with bringing attention to any politically motivated events and opportunities to members of the BSA. Aside from this, I also plan events such as political debates and guest speaker. In the 2019/2020 year, I was the political director as well and really enjoyed the role. In my free time, I really love painting and sketching.

Why I joined BSA?

I joined the BSA because I have always appreciated their work around campus for Black students. As political director last year, I was able to contribute and learn a lot from other members. I hope that this year can be as amazing.

4th year major in Criminology and double minor in Sociology and Equity. As one of three Education and Outreach Directors, my role is to provide as much support as possible to fellow Black students at UofT and Black highschool students in the GTA to show that there is a space for Black excellence in post-secondary. In my spare time, I like to go hiking, learn the piano, and watch copious amounts of Netflix.

Why I joined BSA?

I decided to run for the E&O position because I like many other Black students felt a great sense of community within the BSA, and as someone who did not go to a diverse highschool, going to events throughout the past few years allowed me to make great connections with fellow members and find my place within a large institution such as UofT. It's my hope to do the same for others.

4th Year Political Science Major double minoring in History and Diaspora & Transnational Studies. As Equity Officer, I am responsible for coordinating equity workshops for my fellow members so that we are as accessible as we can be. In my free time, I like to write poetry, play my guitar, and watch Netflix.

Why I joined BSA?

Why I decided to run for the BSA because I wanted to be a part of a collective that cultivated meaningful and memorable experiences for black students here at St.George. The BSA has done a lot for me as a student on this campus, and so it’s time I pay it forward.

3rd year double majoring in Political Science and Sociology. As the social director, I am responsible for managing the various BSA social media accounts. I make sure that everyone following our socials are kept up to date with recent developments and collaborations within the BSA and other initiatives related to BSA. In my spare time, I like to read, listen to music and travel.

Why I joined BSA?

I joined the BSA because I wanted to be a part of something meaningful on campus and I also wanted to become more involved as a black UofT student. I’ve met many great friends through BSA and have had amazing experiences and I’d love to help others do the same.
